About the Project

landLAB collaborated with M.W. Steele Architects and Sue Peerson Planning on updating the masterplan for the University of San Diego. The team sets the road map for the expansion of the campus including new academic buildings, recreational facilities, Campus Student Life Facilities and Student Housing. Coupled with this expansion is a focus on establishing a pedestrian only core, along an integrated plan of major open spaces and pedestrian plazas. The masterplan also includes design guidelines for hardscape panting and irrigation, implementation of bike lanes, implementation of strategies for campus wide turf reduction, connections to native open space and canyons, as well as creation of integrated stormwater management. The final masterplan will be submitted as a CUP submittal to the City of San Diego

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with Carrier Johnson Architects, on a “Palm Springs modern” inspired apartment project in Vista, California. The new apartment complex comprised of a grouping of three story walkup apartments were thoughtfully arranged around a large central open outdoor amenity space  with pool and spa/lounge area, BBQ area, sand play area, bocce court and a large multi-use lawn area, as well as pet washing area. The other buildings face the street providing a vibrant street edge to the project. Drainage from roof water and hardscape areas are collected in naturalized storm water detention basins.

Brea Place Apartments

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with Architects Orange, on Hines, latest  high end apartment project in downtown Brea California. The new apartment complex comprised of two 5 story mixed use apartment complexes that wrap parking structures integrated into a campus of existing office buildings, adjacent retail and a proposed linear park building with integrated outdoor amenities and four levels. The roof top pool areas  take advantage of the southern exposure and focuses on downtown and mountain views. Ground level outdoor amenities features outdoor BBQ /kitchens, fire pits, bocce court and a large multi-use lawn area, as well as pet washing area and kids play areas. The ground level frontage along the Birch Street corridor feature commercial spaces focusing on local businesses tailored towards health and wellness.  The project will be transformative to the city of Brea bringing density to the urban core creating a walkable mixed use community.

2051 Palomar Airport Road Landscape Refresh

About the Project

landLAB was hired by Hines for the refresh of a newly acquired corporate office building in Carlsbad California. The goal of the project is to revitalize and activate un-programmed and unused spaces and update the landscape that consists mainly large expanses of unusable open lawn areas and unsuitable tree and planting species with a sustainable and low maintenance landscape. The property will also have updated signage, hardscape at the building entries as well as private and public outdoor terraces that can be activated with various programs for the diverse groups, large or small groups.

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with Carrier Johnson on the masterplan for the Scripps Ranch Technology park located in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood of San Diego. The client wanted to focus the masterplan expansion of the campus on the open space connections and amenities creating a unique campus environment in San Diego.  The buildout for the campus encompasses five large lots, interconnected with wellness trails, sustainable landscape palette, amenities including two cafes, an urban agriculture garden offering fresh produce to the adjacent café, indoor/outdoor recreation gym facility, indoor/outdoor meeting spaces, a large amphitheater, multipuropose event lawn as well as numerous smaller scale landscape spaces. The project also incorporates on site stormwater.

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with Interior Architects on Bixby Land Development refresh of an existing building/corporate campus in Irvine  California. The goal of the proposal is to revitalize and activate un-programmed and unused spaces and update the landscape that consists mainly of unsuitable open lawn areas and with a sustainable and low maintenance landscape and outdoor amenities and spaces. The project creates indoor/outdoor amenities including sunken courtyards, outdoor fitness center with lap pool, updated building entries.  The project incorporates on site stormwater, and low water use plantings, combined with a mix of outdoor spaces and program making this a unique corporate campus in Orange County.

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with Interior Architects on Hines refresh of an existing 4 building  corporate campus in Irvine  California. The goal of the proposal is to revitalize and activate un-programmed and unused spaces and update the landscape that consists mainly of unsuitable open lawn areas and with a sustainable and low maintenance landscape and outdoor amenities and spaces. The project “Intersect” is based on the notion of wellness+ workplace, creating amenities for not only the campus, but the surrounding neighborhood with the introduction of Micro Retail, featuring smaller local businesses, while creating a new destination “Bier Garten” in the central courtyard space. The project incorporates on site stormwater, and low water use plantings, combined with a mix of outdoor spaces and program making this a unique corporate campus in Orange County.

UCSD Student Career Services Center

About the Project

landLAB was hired for to refresh the existing landscape at UCSD Career Services Center located at the heart of UCSD campus. The overall vision for the site is to preserve the historic eucalyptus grove, enhance the structure’s surroundings and provide a space for students to meet, greet and study while also providing an outdoor space for private dinners and functions. Site features include hangout and dining decks, terraces, and lounge plazas. Sustainable features for the site include pervious paving, California native planting, biofiltration of site run-off and re-use of site salvaged concrete and other materials.

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with HMC Architects on the new San Marcos Unified K-8 facility in San Marcos, California. The project consists of sport courts and ADA-accessible play areas into age-appropriate zones to promote safety and encourage interaction amongst students. The design includes low-water planting and rain gardens that surround the play areas while the outskirts of the site would be planted with California native planting for slope retention and site restoration. Sustainable design features on this project include low water-use planting, bioretention areas in the interior of the site, porous concrete and California native planting.

About the Project

landLAB collaborated with architects Killefer Flammang on Villas at Gower a non-profit transitional housing and community outreach facility in West Hollywood, California. The project includes numerous outdoor garden spaces/courtyards that are programmed for the multi-generational tenants of the project, as well as the staff/counselors that will be operating the facility. The program also includes an indoor/outdoor gallery space for a local artist in residency program, as well as providing gallery space for artists in the surrounding communities. Villas at Gower is certified LEED Platinum facility featuring sustainable design principals including; photovoltaic panels on the roof, low water use native/adaptive planting, and on site infiltration of storm water through a series of planted drainage/infiltration structures.
